Granville Island is the second most visited place in Vancouver.
Since 1979, Granville Island has been an indoor market.
Originally, in the 1930s at the current location of the market there were warehouses, because of the pollution that this resulted in the federal government of Canada buying the land back into a covered market and doing so with great success.
From the market there is a very nice view of the Burrard Bridge and the south of downtown Vancouver, especially at sunset which is reflected in the buildings. While waiting for the sunset you can have a coffee at the Blue Parrot.
To the east of the market there is the science world, where the dragon boat festival takes place every June, a must see if you are in Vancouver at this time of year. You can easily access it by the promenade (Seawall) it is only 3 kms.
Also see the houseboats on the east side of the market.
