The famous Great Wall of China is 8850km long.

This wall was built for 3 different reasons.

The first was to protect China’s northern border against possible Mongol and Manchu invasion.

Which turned out to be useless because twice this wall was crossed, by the Mongols in the 13th century and by the Manchus in the 17th.

The second reason was for better communication which at the time was done with smoke signals.

The third reason was for faster troop transport.

Its construction would have begun in the 7th century BC, and this in small sections by each of the states, which at the time was independent, then around 221-210 BC at the time of the unification of China by Qin Shi Huangdi we began to connect all these pieces of wall together while continuing to build it until at least the 17th century to form the great wall such as we currently know her.

You can access it from several places, personally I went there from Beijing.

From Beijing it takes about 1 hour.

I started with the big door of the world, there are 2 parts, on the right the easiest eastern part, the one I did, then on the left the western which is the most difficult part, that I would have liked to be able to finish but unfortunately for lack of time I had to resign myself to turn around (count a few hours).

In any case, no matter what part you do from where you are, there is a magnificent view, the choice of route is essentially sporty.

For great athletes there is even a marathon of the Great Wall of China which takes place in the month of May, which personally I would like to do one day.

Clothing

Depending on the season, bring sunscreen and also light clothing against the wind and a cap against the sun.

If you decide to do the western part, bring plenty of water and food.

In autumn or winter bring very warm clothes, in winter there is snow.
